Title: Landscape Installation Crew Leader
Location: Gainesville, FL & surrounding North Florida areas
Position Type: Full-Time (6:45 AM – Job Completion; Overtime & Saturdays as needed)
Compensation: Competitive Pay (Based on Experience) + Performance Incentives
At SkyFrog Landscape, our mission is to transform outdoor spaces and turn every client into a “forever client” through craftsmanship, active communication, and attention to detail. We operate under five core values: Stay Motivated, Show Respect, Serve Honestly, Solve Problems, and Sweat the Small Stuff.
We are seeking a skilled, quality-driven Landscape Installation Crew Leader to oversee and execute high-end landscape construction, hardscape installations, and property renovations. In this role, you will lead a field team in bringing design plans to life—from site preparation and grading to planting, sod, mulch, and paver installations. If you are a seasoned installer with strong leadership abilities and a passion for building lasting landscapes, we invite you to grow your career with SkyFrog.
Key Responsibilities & Leadership Duties
Operational Logistics & Resource Management
- Morning Prep & Loading: Plan and oversee the morning loading/unloading of work trucks, dump trailers, heavy equipment, and building materials (plants, sod, stone, pavers, soil, mulch) to ensure all assets are on-site to complete daily installation goals within budgeted hours.
- Vehicle & Heavy Equipment Transport: Safely operate commercial trucks with utility or heavy equipment trailers to transport machinery, materials, and crew members to and from job sites.
Landscape Construction & Field Execution
- Plan Interpretation & Layout: Accurately read, interpret, and lay out landscape designs, construction blueprints, elevation marks, and planting plans on-site.
- Hardscape & Softscape Installation: Direct and participate in site prep, rough/final grading, bed layout, plant and tree installation (proper depth, root care, and staking), sod laying, paver paths/patios, retaining walls, drainage systems, and mulch/gravel placement.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate installation tools and equipment, including skid steers/mini-excavators, plate compactors, masonry saws, tillers, sod cutters, and hand tools.
- Site Restoration & Quality Control: Conduct rigorous final inspections of all installations to ensure structural integrity, alignment, and aesthetic excellence—eliminating the need for punch-list return visits.
Crew Supervision & Safety
- Team Leadership & Training: Guide, mentor, and train installation crew members on proper construction techniques, equipment operation, safety protocols, and daily efficiency.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce strict compliance with OSHA standards, utility call-before-you-dig protocols (811 line locates), personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and company safety rules.
- Problem-Solving & Cleanliness: Embody our core value to “Sweat the Small Stuff” by maintaining clean, organized, and secure job sites throughout the construction process.
Client Interaction & Value Creation
- On-Site Representation: Interact professionally with homeowners, general contractors, and project managers to provide brief progress updates and maintain positive customer relations.
- Upselling & Change Orders: Identify opportunities on-site for layout enhancements, additional plant material, or hardscape additions, coordinating with project managers to generate change orders/upsells.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in landscape installation, hardscaping, or landscape construction (minimum 1–3 years in a crew lead or senior installer role).
- Technical Skills: Proven ability to read landscape blueprints, scale measurements, set grades, and execute proper horticultural planting and hardscape installation practices.
- Equipment Proficiency: Competency in operating skid steers, track loaders, excavators, trenchers, plate compactors, cut-off saws, and standard installation power tools.
- Driving Credentials: Valid driver’s license with a clean record and experience driving commercial work trucks with trailers.
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Schedule & Physical Demands: Ability to start at 6:45 AM, work physically demanding outdoor shifts (lifting 50+ lbs routinely), and work overtime/Saturdays when project deadlines require.
